About

Plastic Salai is a  campaign launched by a very enthusiastic bunch of girls in Chennai. We’re fed up of bad roads, pot holes and cracked roads in Chennai. We’re tired of having to navigate crazy drivers to get from one point to another. We’re sick of horrible roads everytime it rains a tiny bit. We’re tired of garbage everywhere. We’re wondering why despite the fact that Chennai is one of the fastest growing cities and the biggest companies are coming here to set up offices and plants, we’re so bad at urban waste management.

So we put 18 heads together and thought – how do we solve this problem? An absolutely brilliant technology which is now being aggressively adopted by the Corporation of Chennai, is the laying of plastic roads. So we thought – hah, here’s an idea! How about we adopt a ward, talk to citizens and convince them that its time to start separating our garbage, and give these plastics to the concerned authorities. So while we’re achieving the task of segregation of waste, we’re aiding the construction of durable plastic roads.

Stay tuned to this blog for exciting updates everyday. This is our space to tell you what we’re doing, why we’re doing it and how we’re doing it. This is a PR campaign, because, well, we’re students of Public Relations. We’ve adopted Corporation Ward 118 in Chennai city and are going all out with our preparations to launch!

Oh and btw, Plastic Salai translates to Plastic Road.
